Potential to grow
employment in
shared services
in Cork
OVER FIFTY MULTI-NATIONAL and indigenous
Munster-based companies attended a seminar
titled “Initiating, Building and Expanding Shared
Services Activities” at the end of November which
was jointly hosted by Cork Chamber and IDA
Ireland. Speakers were Evan Norton, Pepsico,
Gavin Maxwell, Accenture and Rory Mullen, IDA
Ireland who shared their expertise on the benefits
of establishing shared services functions within
organisations and expanding the scope of
existing shared services activities in Munster
based companies.

“Shared Services is a clear area of opportunity
to grow employment in the Cork area into the
future, focused on value added activities where
Ireland continues to deliver competitive
advantages in emerging areas of Shared Services
best practice,” said Barrie O’Connell, Chairperson
of the Chamber Financial Services Group.
“IDA Ireland is particularly interested in assisting
companies identify and successfully establish
additional shared services activities in Ireland. IDA
Ireland can provide information and assistance to
multinational companies considering
implementing shared service activities in Ireland,”
added Rory Mullen, Manager of Business Services
at IDA Ireland.
According to Gavin Maxwell, Finance and
Corporate Strategy Expert Accenture, “In the
current environment, where a focus on cost is
crucial, the experience of shared services in
Ireland, and in particular Cork, is a solid platform
for companies to optimise their current operations
and expand into new functions to drive costs out
rapidly and restructure for long term change.”
